Located 90 minutes south of Phoenix, the town of Marana is positioned along the Santa Cruz River and part of the Santa Cruz River Valley. The town received it's name from 19th century railroad workers who had to clear a line through the area. Marana is a Spanish word meaning "thicket". With a rich history of ranching and farming, Marana is now an established town of modern meets old west.
Marana has grown considerably since the 1990s, much of it due to the town's annexation of unincorporated areas located southeast of the town limits. The shopping area of Ina and Thornydale was incorporated and is home to Costco, Target, and Home Depot.
With upscale outlet shopping found at Tucson Premium Outlets and the master planned community of Dove Mountain drawing golfers to the area, Marana is sure to have something for everyone.
The Ritz Carlton chose the area of Dove Mountain in Marana as the home of their 5 star resort, and we can't blame them... The Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain has views to boot!
Marana residents are also able to enjoy a state-of-the-art splash pad at Heritage River Park, that is a hit on the warmest of days.
